Frequently Asked Questions
A: Due to the size of both programs, CCS cannot guarantee that practices or games will not overlap or conflict. You may register for both programs, however, special scheduling requests (which must be noted in the special notes area of the registration) are not guaranteed.
Q: I want to be as sponsor. How do I do it, and can I sponsor my child’s team?
A: Sponsors are what enables CCS to continue to offer all of our programs. If you are interested, or know someone that is, please contact us at: 253-335-4069. Most sponsors would like to sponsor a specific coach or child’s team. Every effort will be made to match the sponsor with the correct team. We also offer other sponsorships that are new. These include: sponsoring league umbrellas, which our participant families will be able to pick up on site during inclement weather, and return after the game; ball sponsorship—having your own logo and design on the balls issued to all in a league, or to a certain group; renovating Kent School District dugouts, fields, and other sites; and a multitude of other possibilities.
Q: My child is currently 3 years old, but wasn’t as of the date CCS is using. Can my child play even though they do not meet the minimum age requirement?
A: Unfortunately, we will not be able to permit children not meeting the minimum age requirement to play. We do allow a two-week grace period. We look forward to serving them soon!
Q: May I place my child on an older or a younger team?
A: We do allow this option. Please carefully consider this prior to registration. Many parents will do this to “ease their schedules”, but oftentimes the child will be intimidated by the older children, or just not have as much fun because the child doesn’t know many of the teammates and wishes they could play with their schoolmates of the same age. Parents that want their child to play in a lower division must meet with a CCS representative prior to the registration deadline for a personal viewing of the child and his or her skill level and physical stature. Placement in a younger division will be at the discretion of the CCS representative.
Q: When, and which person, will contact me with information regarding practice schedule, game schedule, coaches’ names, and other details?
A: Your coach will receive his/her roster at least two weeks
before the Jamboree/Picture Day. The coach will be instructed to call and e-mail
each family shown on his/her roster. They will introduce themselves and provide
site and practice day/times, and his/her phone number and e-mail address.
You can also find your child’s coaching and practice information by logging into
your family membership account as though you were going to register for a program,
but select the second option “Review Your Registrations”. Click on the blue
oval to the right of your child’s registration. Coaching and practice information
will not appear until rosters have been finalized approximately 2 weeks prior to
the first game.
Q: I know families that do not speak English as their native tongue, are there translations available?
A: We have translated our flier into Spanish, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese, and Punjabi. We will strive to provide any other languages as requested. We are seeking volunteers to assist us in responding to English learning families. Please call us if you would like to volunteer for verbal and/or written translation.
Q: What kind of background check does Covington Community Sports require for their coaches?
A: Covington Community Sports utilizes the Washington State Patrol Identification and Criminal History system. All coaches and officials that may be left unattended with children are required to complete this form, and are screened for various arrests/convictions. Please visit their website at: https://watch.wsp.wa.gov for more information.
Q: I requested a specific coach/child/site/practice day/time—why wasn’t my request granted?
A: We will do our best to accommodate requests. At times, we will not be able to grant a specific request due to a coach/practice day conflict, full teams, late registrations, etc.
Q: How do I volunteer to help?
A: Please contact us via e-mail at TheStaff@covingtonsports.org, or via phone at 253-335-4069. We are always accepting volunteer coaches, high school students needing community service hours for their Senior/Culminating Project, and other volunteer opportunities.
Q: Why does my child need his/her own baseball helmet?
A: Sharing baseball helmets with teammates is not a good idea. In other leagues, there have been cases of head lice likely spread through this method. Having a helmet for each player allows the helmet to be kept at home, where the child can use it for home practice. They will be expected to bring their baseball glove and baseball helmet to practice and games. CCS currently has used helmets available at no charge. Donations are encouraged.
Q: I have a child that is disabled/ has special needs—what accommodations can/will be made?
A: Please contact us at 253-335-4069. We will make every attempt to allow every child a chance to play.
Q: Are there financial scholarships available?
A: Yes. No child will ever be denied a chance to play due to financial hardship. Please download and complete the Scholarship Application and mail it to: Covington Community Sports, PO Box 7897, Covington, WA 98042. After completing the Scholarship Application, please go online to register your child and note in the Special Needs area that you applied for a scholarship and the date you mailed the Scholarship Application. Donations to the scholarship fund are always appreciated.
Q: What is the refund policy? How do I request a refund?
A: The refund policy appears at the beginning of the registration process. To be eligible for a program refund, a written request must be received a minimum of 2 weeks (14 days) prior to the first game or first day of a class or camp. The refunded amount will be the program fee less a $5 administration fee. A 50% refund will be issued when a written request is received less than 13 days prior to the first game or first day of a class or camp. No refunds will be issued after the first game or first day of a class or camp. No-shows for one-time classes, workshops, activities, or trips will not receive a refund. Full refunds will be made for any programs canceled by CCS. Please allow 2-4 weeks for refunds to be processed. Refunds will be made in the same format of the original payment, they cannot be applied to another program. Refund requests should be sent to TheStaff@CovingtonSports.org
